Enhanced by the HP Super-Scalable Processor Chipset sx2000, the Integrity rx8640 supports up to sixteen Intel Itanium 2 processors, a maximum memory of 512GB, and internal storage scaling up to 1.2TB with four hot-plug Ultra320 SCSI drives, or 2.4TB with an optional Server Expansion Unit 2 (SEU-2).

In addition, the HP Integrity rx8640 sports a batch of unique technologies such as: Double Chip Sparing, which immediately restores chip spare protection after a DRAM chip has failed; hard/soft/sub-core portioning capabilities that enhance consolidation initiatives; Virtual Server Environment (VSE), a fully integrated server virtualization; and a variety of specialized PCI-X & PCI EXPRESS I/O card setups for networking, storage, and legacy connectivity.
